Now is a good time to plant your own mixed salad leaves for cut and come again salad, on your window sill.  outside may be cold and not exactly the greatest growing weather but indoors you can get a head start withh this crop.  use different varieties that you can cut when the leaves are very young, snipping them off with scissors, being careful not to damage the centre of the plant.  this will enable the plant to continue producing leaves.  Apporx 4 cuttings can be made before the plant exhausts itself.  Don't forget you can include peas and other vegetables. Check out the R.H.S. website for more information.
